Borovets In Summer

During the summer, Borovets has plenty to offer tourists.  The resort is situated on the edge of Bulgaria's biggest national park.  The Rila National Park covers over 81,000 hectares and is home to many species of rare and endangered Flora and Fauna native to Bulgaria.  Borovets is an ideal base from which to explore the Rila mountains whether on foot or by mountain bike, the area is well served by huts and signposted trails.  The national park is also home to the 14th century Rila Monastery, a UNESCO world heritage site.

Activities available in the summer include:

• Hiking
• Hunting
• Mountain biking
• Fishing
• Golf
• Historical & cultural visits
• Spa towns nearby

Many local excursions are available and guides can be hired from Borovets. For the adventurous, rock climbing trips with qualified instructors can be arranged in nearby Maliovitsa. Mountain bikes can be hired in the resort to take advantage of the miles of trails throughout the Rila national park.

Golfers will soon be catered for with work beginning this year on three new golf courses at Borovets, Samokov and Dolna Banya.

A less energetic option would be to visit the nearby spa towns of Dolna Banya and Momin Prohod where people have been enjoying the hot springs since Roman times.
